Installing an upgraded stator is a great way to get additional power for stronger lights or to boost your charging system.\u00a0\u00a0 Using these instructions, you’ll be lighting up the road or trails in no time.<\/p>\n
A GY6 flywheel puller will be needed to remove the stock flywheel.\u00a0 A 3-jaw puller won’t work for this job, the stator you’re trying to remove will warp before budging from the crankshaft.<\/p>\n
You’ll also need a 19mm socket wrench to loosen the flywheel nut.<\/p>\n
Before starting, disconnect the negative lead of your battery.<\/p>\n
Locate the black plastic cooling shroud on the passenger-side of the engine.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Remove this cover. Remove the white cooling fan.<\/strong> Remove the flywheel nut.<\/strong> Using flywheel puller, remove flywheel. Important tip #1!<\/strong><\/span> Important tip #2!<\/strong><\/span> Remove stator assembly. Mount the new Stator<\/strong> Mount the Trigger Pickup<\/strong> Mount the Flywheel<\/strong> Important tip #3!<\/strong><\/span> Check that no wires are touching the flywheel. \nIt’s the large nut at the center of the flywheel assembly.\u00a0 An impact wrench may be needed.
\n1x 19mm Nut<\/em><\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>We now have direct access to the stator.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nBe sure to take a picture of how the stock wires are routed under the clamp.\u00a0<\/strong> This is for your own reference during installation.\u00a0 Routing the wires wrong under the clamp will almost certainly lead to wire damage.<\/p>\n
\nBe sure absolutely sure to separate the 4 bolts that attach the fan from the rest of the bolts in this job. <\/strong>\u00a0 If you mistakenly use one of the longer bolts from the shroud, it will <\/em>catch the windings and damage the stator beyond all use.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span> This will also void the warranty.<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Remove the trigger pickup module first.\u00a0 It’s the black module directly above the stator.<\/p>\nInstalling the new Stator<\/h3>\n
\nBe sure to mount the new stator in the same position and orientation as the original.<\/p>\n
\nRoute wires under clamp using the picture you took earlier as a reference. Do not clamp the wire leading to the trigger wire pickup. Install trigger wire pickup.<\/p>\n
\nPosition the new flywheel over the stator. Rotate the flywheel until it slides onto the shaft.\u00a0 The inner magnets should pull it over the stator in the correct position.<\/p>\n
\nAt this point, you’ll just need to continue re-assembly in the reverse of disassembly.<\/p>\nDone!<\/h3>\n
