Then carefully re-tighten the locking nut.\u00a0 You may need a set of pliers to keep the head of the tappet from turning.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat for the remaining valve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Check your work!<\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s important now to recheck the lash of each valve.\u00a0 Rotate the crankshaft a couple times and run the 0.004&#8243; feeler gauge through again.\u00a0 Then try to insert 0.005&#8243; feeler.\u00a0 If it doesn&#8217;t fit, you&#8217;re set properly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Valve &#8220;lash&#8221; is the technical name for the gap between the valve and tappet.\u00a0 The lash is critical to a healthy running engine.\u00a0 Too little lash and you&#8217;ll see starting problems and reliability issues.\u00a0 Too much lash will reduce power and potentially ruin the valve.
