Building the Shackle Joint

These shackle-style joints replace traditional Ball Joints at the end of the A-Arms, allowing articulation of the A-Arms, and pivot of the spindle.

Actually, I don't know. We brought them in straight from the manufacturer, branded "SUNF". We had a bunch at one point. I'm not sure what they're a copy of.

Top Speed and Performance (Early Estimates)

Although I haven't physically progressed on this build recently, I did run the math to get a rough idea of what to expect. The theoretical top speed appears to be 72mph.

For acceleration: Power to weight is coming in at 18 pounds per HP. This is a notch better than the Polaris Ace 570 (20lbs per HP), and equal to the Can Am Commander 800R (had one in the shop last week, it's quick). This assumes I'll be able to hit my target dry weight. Won't know for sure until I have it on all four tires and can get a final weight number.

To sanity check my top speed numbers, I used the video below. 250R swap into a Kandi 150. He claimed 90mph :? But I don't think so. I found another of his videos showing the sprockets and rear tire size, and counted the sprocket teeth to calculate his final gearing. I then watched his RPM shift points, counted his shifts, and calculated top speeds in each gear. I believe he was running mid 70's. Slower than he claimed, but still... :shock:

Being 10" off the ground, it probably feels like 90mph.

Having considered so many different options, I always like the well done motor swap projects, this into that from that. Hard to replace what a video says about it. Most don’t get my attention after some frankenkartstein atv thing that looks more like a collision custom work momma wouldn’t even be proud of and forget real features like turning or going straight.

The video showing the other guys kart looks like a basic new generic kart that also wants to sell you a drink. So your way ahead in my book already (y)

What’s the point in going even 70 if you need a mile to get there? I’d rather burn the trail at 35 range with torque wheel spinning fun. It’s clear he didn’t steal it and took it easy from what I saw before i feel asleep. I’m sure harder driving would show better, and first person driving cam doesn’t show the kart much. Kart guys need drone buddies. I have one...lol. Top speed runs get old to me real quick. Top speed is a very important factor, I actually want to make sure I don’t get that fast. The shifter looked awesome but still sounds under geared to me for anything but Florida, still not as efficient as cvt systems. Looks fun to shift tho. Saying it goes 75 may be more fun than actually going 75.

I have 10 driven and 4 driver sprockets waiting for test and tune along and 2 driven pulley sizes. Theory has to be put to the test, I’m ready for that part. Well when I’m ready...and that other work...hey I’m getting some photos ready for my build post tho. Does HP come in to theoretical top speed? Is it not rpms with drive train ratio and tire size only? I can gear to 200 and not have the power to reach it-but I’ve never factored power in to my speed calculations for a kart. Acceleration is more thrilling to me than top speed either way. I’ll beat it to 40 when I’m done with half the rpm and hp Id bet money on that. I’m not at a total disadvantage tho ;) I have numbers that favor me I think. I’ve been 190 racing before in my turbo z back in the day, 90 was on the way to work. Lol. Handing the key to an an 11 yo to a 90 mph missle- not going to happen. My wife’s out if the 11 yo can’t drive the kart I’m building. Lol. But she won’t drive it without me for a long time either :shock:

What is the torque and rpm of the 250?

I don’t mean to be an opinionated butthole, and hope I don’t come off that way. Im really not trying to hate, just relate to my needs and ideas for comparison. His kart was cool, just not what I’m looking for. Everyone has different goals to their ride I respect that.
