GY6-B scooter exhaust

There are several variations of the 150cc GY6 engine, look here for information on what is out there. This is the place to ask how to identify what buggy model or engine style you have.

GY6-B scooter exhaust

Hi. I came to Buggy Depot hoping to find a source for a GY6-B exhaust for my scooter. No such luck, but I got a little information like the best ID for the new pipe.

Through tons and tons of internet searching and several phone calls, it seems the only performance exhaust ever made specifically for the Xingyue scooter is very difficult to buy.
Now I've ordered a more generic SS exhaust pipe and muffler. I know it has to be modified, but I will not know by how much until it arrives. The pipe looks like it is a single piece compared to many that are a small head pipe welded to a larger pipe leading to the muffler. I'll try to snap a few pics to see the differences.

Over this past weekend the crack around the center of the muffler was getting annoying so I pulled the exhaust and thought it was a bit rattle-y. So I cut the crack all the way around and all the segments of baffles and whatnot fell out nearly all separated. Brazed the bits back together and then welded the muffler back shut, and repainted.

When I went to take the gasket off to try and find a new one locally - there was none. 5000 miles with a slightly leaking head to manifold connection. A sheet of Fel-Ramic manifold gasket material did the job to cut my own. I could probably cut more than 50 gaskets from the $10 sheet if I were a little careful.

Only the rear most muffler mount location doesn't line up with the swing arm. Oh well, should hold up plenty long enough to get the new kit in and installed.

If you were to build your own header, keep the length the same as stock but go to 1" diameter.
