so all a resistor does really is limit the power that can go through it.

Yes. The electricity flows through the resistor when the brake is off, and flows through the switch when the brake is on. This gives me a two-level intensity like a tail/brake light would with only one "bulb".

Ok Matt,

I have to admit I like your method of hooking up the lights better. I should have followed your method the first time. I am just a hard headed engineer that gets and idea and bangs on it until it either breaks or he finds a better way of doing it. (your way is better)

I went a different route initally. I hooked up trailer lights, and ran it off of the battery and installed a switch on the steering colum. I got them cheap at harbor freight (I love that place). They were bright and worked real well, but had trouble keeping the light tight. So I switched to the LED lights. "I bow once again in humble submission."

I took it a step further, I will add pictures later, and installed two LEDs on the upper grey roll bar in the back for better visibility. I have them wired in like your schematic off the running lights instead of the battery. After I did that it was a slam dunk. I just wish I could brighten up the driving lights a but and still have super bright stop.

When I get some time I guess I will have to dig around in my boxes to find my old resistor box, or a varible 1k resistor to see if I can tweak it up a little more.

Does it matter that I'm an engineer too? ;D

Glad it all worked out! :flyby:

No I am just a hard headed one. That is all!!

Here is to all of the engineers.

Have a cold one for me.

I am heading off to the desert at 3:00 am when it is still cool. To take the Gaggle of Girls and three foriegn exchange students out riding. There will be at least 11 to 13 little girls out tearing up in the desert.

I told you I was a glutten for punishement.

Here is my mod based on Matt's design.

$16 dollars a little wire, couple of resistors from radio shack, couple of connectors from Harbor freight.

Thanks for asking it fablous. I had 13 little girls and 3 3206s for them to "fight over". I had my 5, 3 foriegn exchange students from China and Japan, our friends 3 daughters, and one tag along all in a 28 foot motorhome and a 12' trailer.

They all had a blast. The look on the exchange students face was priceless. I just wished I had brought my camera. I over slept and we scrambled out in the am and forgot the camera. I was a little bleary eyed.

I dont know if you saw my previous posts, but did have one break down. I had my right shock head seperate from the piston. It decided to unthread it self from the piston on level ground at about 25 to 30 mph. Luckly i was in the passenger seat when it happened and was able limp it back to home base. It added new meaning to the work Shock!
